Training with GRAVITY - New Blog Post
I’m often asked to try out various workouts and although some are very effective for toning troublespots, very few would be of interest to the male exerciser. With this in mind I was keen to try out the GRAVITY Training System (GTS), which is billed as the whole body workout for both sexes using only your bodyweight as resistance.
The machine itself looks like it shares its DNA with the pilates reformer and the Total Gym (endorsed by boyhood hero Chuck Norris no less!), which my instructor Greg Sellar informs me adds to the versatility of the machine. Although it’s primarily for strength, it can also be used effectively for rehabilitation and the whole pilates reformer series – providing a total of around 300 exercises to choose from.
During the session we completed moves for each bodypart, which were challenging - you feel yourself working and having to stabilise but the movements felt smoother than using weights or machines. We also did explosive plyometric type jumps and presses to work the legs, shoulders and back – which are more difficult to perform in the gym.
If I was in the market for a home gym then this would definitely be on my shopping list. Not only is it a very effective piece of kit, it also folds down impressively when not in use, taking up much less space than my pilates reformer which is currently on its end in my spare room!
The GTS is also available at selected Nuffield and Virgin Active Gyms, you can find your nearest club by visiting www.gravityuk.net
